Natural wormers

If you don't grow or otherwise have access to natural wormers you can order
Mollys http://fiascofarm.com/herbs/wormer.htm  It works very well and I've used it off and on for years now.

I also make my own and prefer it to Molly's, which is probably the same for
everyone who makes their own. There are some interchangeable ingredients
for taste. The two main ingredients are wormwood and garlic, they are the
most important wormers and cover more types. Most herbs for parasites work on
one or two, wormwood and garlic work on many.

Other herbs for wormers are
Thyme
Mugwort
Pumpkin seeds
Cayenne
Black walnut hulls
Ginger

My current wormer recipe is (all dried herb)

1 part Wormwood
1 part Mugwort
1 part Pumpkin seeds
1/4 part Garlic
1/4 part Black Walnut hulls

I don't measure for cats because we have so many but I estimate and try to
be sure each cat gets approximately 1/2 t for every 5 pounds of body
weight. I feed once a week. I now also follow the Molly's chart for worming the
goats, using the 3 day dose as well.

To the 3 day dose I add
1/4 part ginger root
1/8 part ceyenne

I use this dogs, cats, rabbit, poultry, goats, ....
**I used to make a similar recipe for the horses but without black walnut,
which can be

When I have more Thyme I add it to the regular recipe but don't have
enough started right now. I use around 1/2 Part.

It's more based of what you have available and what your animals will eat.
I always feed the wormer so there's less stress for everyone. Stress
reduces immune system which in turn makes it easier for parasites to take hold
and prosper.

I also believe it's important to balance the immune system as a natural
resistance to parasites.

The goats eat black walnut leaves and we pick them when they can no longer
reach them. The leaves are drying and I use them in Drawing salve but they
likely have anti parasites properties too.

I also keep 2 waters for all the animals, one has clean well water and the
other is water with my own apple vinegar. Our animals often choose the
vinegar water over the regular water. I don't really measure but I would think
I used around 3 to 4 tablespoon per gallon of water.

Sinus Infection

Two steps, one to clear the sinuses and start healing and the other to combat the infection.

If your sinuses are completely blocked you should Not use a Neti. You can do a search on Neti Pot and find the directions. To make a good balanced Neti salt simply take 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon each of good quality baking soda and sea salt and dissolve in hot water (8 to 10 ounces). If you have any downing sensation at all that means the water is not warm enough. It needs to be much warmer than most people realize. For sinus infection it can be used several times a day but do not use within an hour bed and don't use if there is complete sinus blockage.

Echinacea is the best, strongest and easiest to use of the herbal antibiotics in my opinion. There are others and most can be combined. Adding honey boosts the herbals. Like any antibiotics, herbal antibiotics would be used for 7 to 10 days and then ceased for 14 days or more so that resistance isn't built up. Garlic and Gold seal are my two second favorite antibiotics and they can work well togtehr.

Also, boosting the immune system so that your body can better fight the infection. I prefer Pau D'arco, it, jump starts and boost the system plus enhances several other immune boosters and antibiotics. It works very well with echinacea.

Juli's Herbal Wormer

If you don't grow or otherwise have access to natural wormers you can order Mollys. It works very well and I've used it off and on for years now.

I am back to making my own now that I have a good crop of wormwood again. There are some interchangeable ingredients for taste and preference but he two main ingredients are wormwood and garlic. They are, in my opinion, the most important wormers and cover more types of parasites. Most herbs for parasites work on one or two, wormwood and garlic work on many.

Other herbs for wormers are
Thyme
Mugwort
Pumpkin seeds
Cayenne
Black walnut hulls
Ginger

My current wormer recipe is (all dried herb and ground together)

Juli's Wormer
1 part Wormwood
1 part Mugwort
1 part Pumpkin seeds
1/4 part Garlic
1/4 part Black Walnut hulls

Grind together and store in an airtight container. I feed once a week.

For outside cats - approximately 1/2 t for every 5 pounds of body weight up to 1 teaspoon total. To much and they simply won't eat it.

For inside, older cats and kittens - 1/4 t per 5 pounds body weight

For dogs - 1t per 10 pounds up to 1 Tablespoon. Our LGD gets 2 level T's

For the goats I now also follow the Molly's chart for worming the, using the 3 day dose as well. I use roughly 1 heaping tablespoon for every 100 pounds

To the 3 day dose I add
1/4 part ginger root
1/8 part cayenne

I use this dogs, cats, rabbit, poultry, goats, ....

**I used to make a similar recipe for the horses but without black walnut, which can be deadly to horses.

When I have more Thyme I add it to the regular recipe but don't have enough started right now. I use around 1/2 Part.

Madwort (Alyssum)

Madwort - Alyssum - Lobularia meritima

There's also Hairy Madwort / Hoary Madwort / False Madwort which is a different plant and is not Alyssum or true Madwort.

Madwort (Alyssum) is a beautiful flower grown in many cottage and moon gardens. I believe it's native to the Mediterranean but it grows well in many areas of the US. It's medicinal uses have been lost and forgotten over the years but, it's not only medicinal, it's also edible.

Madwort is a calming herb, which is how it got it's name. It has been used to treat madness and even rabies at one time or another. It's also used to treat asthma and is a diuretic. But it's best use, in my opinion, is as a nerve tonic. A strong tea of Madwort, sweetened with a bit of honey works very well for hysteria. Madwort and Damiana are a good combination and with a pinch of Valerian it can make a strong sleep tonic.

For the table, flowers, leaves and stems are edible. They have a pungent spicy flavor and can be eaten cook with greens, added to soups and stews, or eaten raw in salads.

Madwort is also very high in vitamin C, adding to the reasons that make it a good addition to any medicinal or edible garden.

Homemade Black Walnut Tincture & Iodine Solution

Black Walnuts ( Juglans nigra ), are wonderful things and have so many uses. Black Walnut tincture has been made and used for many, many years.

To make a tincture ... gather Black Walnuts in the fall and sort through to find the ones with the best greens. The green outer hull is what you need and it should be in the best condition. If using just the green you'll have a stronger tincture sooner but many people use the whole walnut so that they don't get the stains.

Black walnut is traditionally used for treating parasites and parasitic infections but has also been used in some cancer treatments and is very high in iodine. Some people believe that because of the high iodine content, taking a strong Black Walnut tincture (Iodine Solution) can prevent or treat radiation sickness.

You can make a traditional tincture with drinking alcohol and you can use almost any kind, from rum to whiskey. In my experience Brandy is best but much to expensive, followed by Vodka which is much more affordable. Or, you can make a non-alcohol tincture with brown vinegar, which works well but does not seem to work as well or as quickly as alcohol tinctures, in my opinion. Depending on the use, a traditional alcohol tincture will very likely get into the blood stream quicker than a vinegar tincture. I've made and tried both and tried a couple of different drinking alcohols and prefer Vodka for medicinal tinctures.

Another consideration is shelf life. Vinegar tinctures do not keep nearly as long as alcohol tinctures. I'll use vodka here but the directions are the same regardless of what you use.

Add the whole walnuts, or just the green hulls, to a wide mouth jar or crock and fill to cover with Vodka. Cover with a good lid and allow to set, out of direct sunlight, for roughly 3 to 6 days. The longer it sets the stronger it will be. Gently shake once a day. The tincture will turn dark. When it's finished just pour off the liquid into a clean bottle and cap well.

Dosages depend on use and individual, and I have not found any recommended dosage for preventing/treating radiation sickness.

The hulls can also be dried and powdered and used in herbals. Wormwood (dried or tinctured) is an excellent addition for treating parasite infection.

****** Please see your care provider before using any treatment, natural or otherwise.

****** Pregnant women should take extra care with everything.

****** Horses should never be given Black Walnut in any form.

MRSA staph infection

I am not a doctor in any way. Even with natural medicines it's always best to consult your caregiver :)

MRSA is a dangerous antibiotic resistant staph infection. It's contracted and transmitted in several ways and can be carried by persons with no symptoms or signs.

It's very difficult to recommend anything without knowing a lot more about the individual. Things like age, general health, allergies, illnesses, other medications are all very important and should be considered.

However, If I were treating myself, here's what I would do...

Echinacea taken internally, which can be gotten in capsules at most health food stores, easily grown, harvested and dried or used fresh. Echinacea purpurea (purple coneflower) grows wild in much of the US. never wildcraft on roadsides (very toxic) and never kill what you wildcraft.

All parts are medicinal. It's a good, natural antibiotic that generally works well when things are resistant to mainstream medicines. I would use a heavy dose, at least the maximum advised on the container 4 times a day or a strong tea/infusion of a teaspoon dried herb to 8 ounces of water (steep covered 5 minutes or more) 4 to 6 times a day or what you care provider advises for a full 10 days. Echinacea can be sweetened with honey but never cane sugar. Echinacea should not be taken for more then 10 days in a row and after 10 days it's best to wait 2 weeks before starting again so as not to build up a resistance.

Your care provider will know best :)

Honey, can be used on open wounds and taken internally. I would suggest 2 tablespoons 3 times a day and if using on wounds, added two to three times a day. Bacteria cannot live in honey.

Cleanliness is of the utmost importance, so clean regularly as prescribed by the care providers.

Pau D'Arco taken internally, can also be gotten in capsules or order in bulk. It strengthens the immune system and also kills some bacteria. 1 to 2 capsules a day or as directed, or 1 strong cup of tea per day made from 1 teaspoon dried herb. This can be mixed with the echinacea and sweetened with honey.

You can also often find valuable help and information by talking to pharmacists. Call your local pharmacy and see what they can advise. Never take anyone's word as the absolute truth, We can only say what we believe to be truth, each body is different and may act differently to different medicines, natural or otherwise. Know your own body and take all else as well meaning advice.

Namaste
Juli

Arthritis

I'm not a doctor of any kind and natural medicine is no substitute for conventional medicines. You should always check with your care provider before using anything or starting anything new.

Natural cures and treatments don't fix things right away and the most common reason they don't work is because people don't stick with them long enough. However, that doesn't mean every natural cure works for everyone. Each body and system is different and what may work for one may do nothing for another.

Most arthritis, including rheumatoid and psoriatic arthritis, have to do with an immune system imbalance. Sorting that out and getting the system back in balance can have much longer lasting effects than treating the arthritis.

get to know your body, system and cycles. If you don't already, start trying to feel when your immune system starts to get out of balance, it usually happens during stress but it also happens on a cycle. When you get the feel of it and know it's going down you can take Pau D'arco (tea, capsules or whatever), 3 times a day for 2 to 3 days. To actually balance the immune system and get it working right on it's own you would need to continue this way for at least a year and maybe longer.

I've made a tea to treat the joints. It reduces swelling, relieves pain and may help rebuild tissues and strengthen the ligaments.

Joint Tea

2 pts black cohosh
2 pts feverfew
1/4 pt ginger
1/4 pt ginseng

Store in an airtight container. Add 1 teaspoon tea per cup and steep 3 minutes. The same tea can be used for 2 to 3 cups.

For severe pain and swelling add 1/4 part white willow (very bitter but worth it).

This tea can be sweetened with honey but never sugar.

........................................

Things that worsen arthritis are drinking alcohol, all dairy (except yogurt which will help) and red meat.

Dates, saw palmetto, stinging nettle and sativa all can cause joint pain and swelling.

.............................

Things that help reduce pain and swelling and help regenerate the tissues are ...

Most fresh fruit, raw vegetables, raw nuts, fish, yucca, sulfur and potassium.

And finally, yoga and tai chi. I know first hand what yoga and tai chi can do for the joints and body. If you do a search for arthritis treatments I believe yoga will come up every time. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, you don't need tights or mats or any of that stuff. Just do a search for basic yoga positions, take two or three positions that you can do and feel comfortable with and do them every day, just 5 or 10 minutes, for a week and see how you feel.
